Reducing Barriers to Healthcare: Understanding Implicit Bias

Registered nurses, registered nurses in a specialty area, advanced practice providers, physicians and other healthcare workers are invited to explore strategies to provide equitable access and reduce implicit bias in the delivery of healthcare services.
This Henry Ford + MSU educational session will provide information on implicit bias, equitable access to healthcare, and cultural sensitivity. Participants will develop an understanding of microaggression and reflect on current available evidence of implicit bias regarding access to care. The session will also examine the historical and contemporary bases for and consequences of implicit bias based on an individual's characteristics
This partnership session will be presented by Dorinda Carter Andrews Ed.D, professor of race, culture, and educational equity at Michigan State University.
Continuing Education Information
- Contact Hours: Participants completing the eventand the post-session evaluation will receive 1 continuing nursing education contact hour. Meets the content requirements for 1.0 contact hour of State of Michigan implicit bias continuing education (CE) credit.
- Learning Outcome: At the completion of this learning activity, participants will state increased knowledge of reducing implicit bias in the delivery of healthcare services.
Henry Ford Health is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
